About... an Introduction

Wendy Kirwood
Since moving to Cumbria from West Sussex in December 2018, I have continued to build on my creative practice and enjoy exploring the local landscape, taking photos and using these as inspiration for my paintings. My work aims to capture the essence of the ever-changing English landscape; the seasons, light and colour all influence my work. I have taken inspiration from the Cumbrian artist Percy Kelly (1918 - 1993), the work of Yorkshire landscape artist Simon Palmer and also Kurt Jackson. In 2023, I have exhibited nationally in Grasmere, Cumbria; Halifax, Manchester and Sheffield. New work is to be shown at the Fox Yard Studio, Stowmarket in Suffolk as part of the 'Un/Familiar' exhibition curated by Art Magnitude. In January 2025, I will be exhibiting alongside Lucy Waters in a joint show at Fronteer Gallery, Sheffield having won the People's Choice award at the Open Exhibition at Fronteer Gallery in December 2023.
